Bootea Review

We were very excited to conduct our Bootea review. As there are so many bias reviews floating around online, we thought we’d throw our hat into the ring and release a bootea review backed by research.

If you’ve heard of ‘Teatox’ you’ve more than likely heard or seen the brand Bootea. These guys are one of the market leaders in the industry and make two highly popular Teatox products, among other weight loss products. We got our 28 day Bootea Teatox from Holland and Barrett, a large health food/supplements retailer in the UK. The price was a little steep at £34.99, however this isn’t too bad when comparing the price to many other Teatox products on the market that charge even more!

First Impressions

We were very impressed with the packaging. The tea comes in a lovely looking box that contains two pouches – the daytime tea and the night time cleanse tea.

We first tried the daytime tea – The directions state that you should brew the tea for 2-3 minutes to allow it time to infuse. Thankfully Bootea comes in teabags, so it’s much more convenient than many of the loose tea teatox products we’ve reviewed in the past. The taste wasn’t terrible – not great – but not terrible. Bootea recommend that you use some sugar-free sweeteners to make the tea more drinkable, however adding artificial chemicals into the tea completely defeats the point of detoxing.

The night time tea was similar; the taste was rather bad. The night time cleanse tea is a strong laxative. Don’t underestimate this tea – it will clean you out. Be very careful when you drink this tea and allow yourself plenty of time on a morning to deal with the effects!

Bootea Company Facts

– Produced under the trading name Bootea, the parent company is called Twentyeighty Ventures.

– Both 14 and 28 day teatox products are available.

– This teatox has been known to cause contraceptive pills to not work, leading to pregnancy in many users.

What Does Bootea Teatox Claim To Do?

When researching for our Bootea review one of the first things we noticed was that Bootea literally make no claims about their product.. Not a single claim. If you read the website carefully, they use lots of phrases like “help you on your journey” etc. but they do not even claim that the product helps with weight loss. This is very interesting from a marketing perspective. If anything, their website content seems very lazy. They don’t explain what a teatox is or answer any basic questions on their website. Even their ingredients are well hidden, on some small little page buried within their website. The lack of claims made by Bootea are probably there as a safety net, in case people complain that the tea didn’t help them lose weight. How can you complain when they never claimed it would help you lose weight, right? Regardless, the language on the website heavily implies that it will help with weight loss.

What Are The Teatox Ingredients?

The Bootea review team found the full ingredients list on the Bootea homepage after some extensive searching. It seems like Bootea are purposely keeping the ingredients on the down-low.

Daytime Tea: Chinese Oolong tea, Maté leaves, Ginger root, Fennel seeds, Lemongrass, Dandelion leaf, Ginseng root, Gotu Kola leaves, Nettle leaves.

Bedtime Cleanse: Senna leaves, Peppermint leaves, Fenugreek seeds, Liquorice root, Burdock root, Hawthorn leaves, Valerian root, Psyllium seeds.

Are There Any Side Effects To This Teatox?

Unfortunately, Bootea has a major side effect – it can stop contraceptive pills / birth control pills from working. Do NOT use this product if you are using birth control. This is VERY important. Bootea have been responsible for numerous unplanned pregnancies (something the company has kept very quiet about). Bootea actually only addressed this side effect AFTER receiving a bombardment by the media outlets. Needless to say, Bootea does not list any other side effects. After doing some research, people have experienced bad diarrhoea, nausea and headaches from this product.

Are There Any Reviews From Customers?

We were able to find lots of reviews of Bootea on amazon.

I’m on day 4 and in absolute angony to the point this morning the worse that could happen…. DID. Praise the Lord I was home and my other half has a sense of humour coz I was mortified. Been sofa surfing alday whilst cuddling a hot water bottle with the cramps. You have been warned.

After reading the reviews on here, I was extremely apprehensive about trying Bootea! I think it tastes nice, but then I already drink green tea so it doesn’t taste strange to me. They recommend adding a natural sweetener like honey or lemon if you don’t like the taste that much. The night time tea is quite pepperminty but still quite nice. I didn’t suffer from the urgent need to rush to the toilet like the horror reviews suggest, although I did experience acute cramping the first night which was not pleasant at all! I’d say that I felt less hungry and bloated after the daytime tea but I really didn’t enjoy the nighttime tea. On the product’s website, they say if there is cramping, brew the tea for less amount of time which worked slightly, although I still didn’t feel 100%! I wouldn’t slate this product however, I would rave about it either…maybe it would work for others more, but the price is quite high considering it’s a little bit of a gamble!

So Does The Bootea Teatox Work?

As we established early in our Bootea review, Bootea technically promises nothing, so this is kind of a weird question. Does Bootea work for weight loss? It can, although remember they do not promise anything. The Bootea has a harsh laxative effect which can obviously help you drop water weight, however it is important to note that NHS state that diarrhea can actually cause bloating, not reduce it (source). The caffeine in the day blend can boost your metabolism, however the amount of caffeine in this Teatox product will probably have no significant effect on the body’s ability to burn calories.

Where Can I Buy This Product?

Bootea can be bought from the homepage, or your local health food store.

Our Verdict

To conclude our Bootea review, our team has decided that this is a decent product with some unfortunate downsides. Bootea is not suitable for a lot of people. It causing diarrhea and stops the contraceptive pill from working. The tea will also not really help you burn any body fat (not that they claimed it would).
